Northward Hill is a nature reserve bursting with amazing wildlife and once a month you can join our team of conservationists who will help you get "hands on " with nature, exploring the relationship between birds and all our other wild creatures through the seasons.

The Sunday morning adventures are based at our education barn and start with an opportunity to meet and observe a team of qualified bird ringers in action. The ringer's are learning about our bird's breeding success, survival, health, length of life and overall population trends. We will explore just how ringing answers these questions and how the RSPB uses that information. The birds that have been ringed are released back onto the reserve, and that's where you can help help, getting closer to wild birds than ever before.

Birds cannot live in isolation, and each month our event will focus on a different part of the wild environment that is their home, and we will head off into the reserve on ditch dipping, bug sweeping and botanic forays, looking for animal tracks and signs. There will be photographic presentations in the barn to back up what is discovered in the field and you may bring your photos along from previous field trips for all to enjoy. This months presentation will look at Breeding Success.

Binoculars, magnifying glasses, bug pots, and nets are all provided, all you need to bring along is a notebook, sketchbook or camera to record your own discoveries, clothes fit for the weather, and a healthy thirst for knowledge that we will try to quench.
