Fordhall Farm summer fair date
06 July 2014 - 06 July 2014
Fordhall Organic Farm’s summer fair will host storyteller Francesca Millican-Slater for the first time, whose performance “My Dearest Girls: Helen’s Story” is based on real letters sent between a group of six Shropshire women between 1917 and 1920.
Mrs Millican-Slater said: “I make theatre performances. I don’t write plays exactly, but I do write my own words. I don’t make paintings and sculptures, but I do make my own sets. I’m not an actress, exactly, but I do like dressing up and putting on voices. I just want to tell you stories.”
Becca Cartwright, organiser of the fair at the farm near Market Drayton, said: “It’ll be a first to have a professional storyteller at our event and we are really excited that it’s Francesca Millican- Slater. Her story “My Dearest Girls: Helen’s Story” highlights the journey agriculture has taken over the past 100 years - it will be interesting as well as entertaining.
"We hope that any grown-ups at the summer fair will enjoy a half hour break being transported back to the early 1900s with Francesca and her character Helen."
There will also be tractor rides, tree climbing, donkey rides and welly wanging, and organisers are also hoping for a special visit from an RAF helicopter.
Entrance to the fair, which will run from 10am to 4pm, will be £3 per person or £10 per family of four.
Entrance to see Francesca Millican-Slater will be £2 and she will perform three times during the day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
